About four quarter million government posts are up for grabs.According to Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, currently there are 370 thousand 447 open posts in the government. The Minister of Public Administration gave this information in response to questions from journalists at a discussion organized by the Bangladesh Secretariat Reporters Forum (BSRF) at the media center of the Secretariat yesterday. According to the Public Administration Minister, there are now 19 lakh 151 sanctioned posts in the government. Among them, 3 lakh 70 thousand 447 people are vacant. The 2022 report said that there were 5, lakh 3,333 open posts.
The Minister of Public Administration said that 42 thousand 931 people have been appointed to cadre posts through the 28th to 41st BCS examination in 15 years from 2009 to 2024. Besides, 69 thousand 239 people have been appointed in non-cadre posts. From independence to 2008, 34,040 candidates were recruited in the BCS examination. Between 2019 and 2024, 178 administrative officials were called for investigation due to various violations. 69 of them were given lenient punishment and 22 were given severe punishment based on the severity of the crime. 91 persons have been so punished. The remaining 87 were not convicted.

According to the Minister of Public Administration, 351 officials from grades one to nine have been the target of complaints in the last ten years from 2014 to 2024. 140 of them received minor punishment and 41 of them received severe punishment. A total of 181 people were punished. Also, 170 people have been spared. According to Public Administration Minister Farhad Hossain, the departmental case is still pending. If someone lodges a complaint against an officer, the department will investigate the matter. About 26.22 percent of the 36th BCS are women officers. I observed 24.73% in 37th BCS. 26.91 percent in 38th BCS. The proportion of women in the 40th BCS was 26.03 percent. In the recent 41st BCS, 26.71 per cent women candidates were recommended for posts.

Even after removing the 10 percent limit, women are getting the same amount of work. Besides this, the Minister of Public Administration said that 29 percent of government employees are women. The recommendation for women recruitment in various BCSs is on an average 26 to 27 percent. However, women have higher rates in certain BCSs. Apart from this, the Public Administration Minister highlighted the number of women working in the administration at all levels from the secretary to the assistant commissioner (land). According to Farhad Hossain, 11 out of 84 secretaries are women. There are 151 Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs) and seven Deputy Commissioners (DCs). Besides, 658 women are serving as Senior Assistant Secretary, 394 as Deputy Secretary, 164 as Joint Secretary and 75 as Additional Secretary. Apart from this, there are 88 women in the posts of Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Divisional Commissioner.

In response to a question regarding the acquisition of vehicles, the minister said that the purchase of 261 vehicles for DC and UNO was stalled for three years. Many vehicles are 17 years old and unfit for road use. Austerity policies were successfully passed during Corona. In this way certain cars are being bought gradually. 161 pieces of machinery are used to manufacture the car. The actual cost of the automobile is Rs 35 lakh 38 thousand. Each car also has a tax of one crore ten lakh twenty one thousand rupees to be paid. These vehicles have a lifespan of 19-20 years. He claimed that the Finance Ministry or NBR receives money as tax.
